April and Mike’s classy winter wedding was a dream to shoot! Just a couple of months prior to their wedding, we met downtown Toronto for a coffee. We wanted to get to know one another a little more, chat details of the wedding, and snap a few “engagement photos”, they were both so laid back, that I think I only took about 50 images of them enjoying their post work coffees. They filled me in that the Love by Lynzie team was helping them to create a classy, winter wedding with pops of teal, gold (check Mike’s shoes!!) and lots of black. They’d be bringing together 225 of their best and closest to celebrate their marriage in a gorgeous church downtown Toronto before shredding up the dance floor all evening!
I met April at her parent’s condo where she laughed through the whole morning while getting ready with her bridal party and family. I think she picked out my favourite bridesmaid dresses to date! They’re black with gold sequinned sides, like C’MON, I think I need one of those dresses haha! While I was drooling all over the girls’ dresses, Alex was over with Mike and his groomsmen who had a great time hanging with their family at Mike’s parent’s beautifully designed home (the family has too many architects to count!). With a December wedding we had to be mindful of not only the chilly weather but also the amount of daylight we would have to work with for their photos. April and Mike opted not to do a first look and instead saw each other as April walked down the aisle linked arms with her Dad. Luckily we were able to work quickly through group photos so everyone could get back inside for some mulled wine and cozy by the fire. We only had about 15 minutes left of daylight with the couple, but Alex and I worked quickly, capturing them snuggling together for warmth (and cuteness!). It goes to show that photos on your wedding day don’t need to last for hours and take up all your day. As long as we’ve got some nice light to work with and a couple willing to trust us, then we can make just about anything work! Every wedding day we’re surprised with different conditions, time frames and landscapes. I love that it keeps me on my toes and my creativity sharp!
What were your top 3 most important things while planning the wedding?
1. We really wanted our wedding to reflect us. We trusted our instincts on a lot of decisions, even when it meant going against the grain.
2. Making sure our guests would have a great time!
3. We always made sure to check in with each other and set aside quality time together during the craziness of planning the wedding, so that we would not lose sight of why we were doing this.
What was your favourite part of the day?!
April – “Running down the church steps with my new husband and our wedding party, while the church bells rang and cars honked their horns!”
Mike – “Tearing up the dance floor til 2 in the morning with our closest friends and family! Dancing closely with April to Hey Jude while everyone formed a circle around us!”

Nagham from Love by Lynzie described their design inspiration for April and Mike’s wedding; “We wanted it to feel as warm and romantic as possible. That included lots of candle light, keeping the colour palette simple, but also adding that pop of teal as a feature. The couple loves Christmas time and were so excited to share the season with their friends and family. We wanted to pay homage to that special time with touches of traditional decor but reimagined with a timeless and creative spin. This lead to the gorgeous ornaments that guests got to take home and hopefully treasure for years as a memory. I love when the decor has such a strong impact on guests as they walk into a venue and that includes details like how the space smells, so we had Tanya incorporate evergreens to make you really feel that winter wonderland spirit everywhere!”
