Elopement in Toronto Backyard – Margot + Till

a special Toronto elopement

Margot and Till have an interesting love story, so before I get to their Toronto elopement, we first have to understand how they got here.

Rewind a handful a years and this Canadian girl and German boy meet in Barcelona, where they are both working at the time. They strike up a conversation during a slow lunch hour at a sushi restaurant as they're the only patrons, and I guess the rest is history as they say! Over the next couple years dabble in lots of travel around Europe, job changes and schooling, which lands Margot a job in San Francisco. They do some long distance, they meet up around the globe, Margot spends some time in Barcelona, Till spends some time in California and all while they prepare documents to both live in the US. Then covid strikes. Margot in California. Till in Germany. And neither of them able to enter the other's country. Months of this leads to hardship, heartache and hard work at gathering still more documents so the two of them can now be in Canada, and more specifically, Toronto. Fast forward to July 2020. Both fly to Toronto, are reunited, quarantine for 2 weeks, immediately get engaged (which is whole other beautiful story that we'll share at another time!), and 13 days later they have an intimate elopement in Toronto... in my backyard! Oh yeah, I should mention Margot has been one of my closest friends since age 12.

Which brings us to their beautiful elopement story; with only 4 people present, plus The Marrying Lady to make things official, these two globe trotters are finally hitched and tied together. Ain't nothing bringing them apart now, and that includes you covid! We brought the inside out back with string lights, rugs, plants, lanterns and Margot's favourite incense to set the scene for their elopement. After a heartfelt, barefoot ceremony and signed documents these two sealed the deal with a kiss and popped champagne! For their "reception" we had an array of sushi delivered, a nod to their first meeting (and a fan fav!) and we all pulled up some rug, sat on the floor and laughed to celebrate their union before heading down onto the street for a nighttime portrait session around Chinatown! In the future Margot and Till plan to celebrate with their family and friends who are scattered across North America and Europe!

I am so happy that this amazing couple is able to be in the same country again, I am so grateful to have been a part of and capture their story and now call them my neighbours! xo

Meet the couple

What was your favourite part of the day?!

Margot- it was the smallest moment in a day filled with so many great ones, but at the beginning of the ceremony, we locked eyes and both had that "holy shit" moment when we both realized we were actually getting married!

Till- reading our vows to one another! we wrote haiku's to each other and they both very different, it was special because it shows our different characters.
