Toronto Engagement Session in Kensington Market

Toronto Engagement Session Ideas

When it comes to choosing what to do or where to go for your Toronto engagement session, the possibilities are endless! Toronto is filled with so many pockets of interesting streets, small tucked away parks, vibing neighbourhoods, hip coffee shops, flower shops, unique breweries and endless restaurants to try. So when the time comes to choose what to do in Toronto for your engagement session, the city really is your oyster! (believe it or not, I've actually done an engagement session where the couple shucked oysters!) So whether you'd like to enjoy a slice of nature and seek out a park or forested area, or you are true urbanites and like to spend your time lost in graffitied alleys or old streets there is something for everyone!

I've rounded up some Toronto engagement session ideas and some of my favourite sessions over the last couple years in the city. From brewery hoping, caffeine refills, bikes rides and hanging out on parking garage rooftops I've had a blast creating in this city and can't wait to do more of it in 2021.

Toronto Breweries

Bandit Brewery

Bandit Brewery sits on Dundas St W right in the trendy area of Roncesvalles, in the warmer months try grabbing a spot on their large outdoor patio and bask under the multiple strings of lights. On the chillier days head inside to one of their many tables, there's even a large bar top.

Steam Whistle

in the heart of the city, Steam Whistle's Roundhouse is located right at the foot of the CN Tower. Head inside the iconic Roundhouse for a tour of the entire brewery to see how everything is done, then finish it up with a pint at the bar. After that why not head around and grab a spot in the Biergarten for German style eats - make sure you try to pretzel! Outside, the park has grassy areas for a picnic, while sitting under a tree for some shade.

Bellwoods Brewery

A hip brewery on the fascinating Ossington strip, Bellwoods Brewery has a large outdoor patio which is heated on the cooler days. Or you can squeeze inside at a booth or table inside the cozy brewery. Bellwoods has a forever rotating tap with interesting flavour combos of some of their most popular beers, one of my favourites is the Jelly King! On your way out don't forget to head next door to the bottle shop to take a few to go!

Coffee Shop Engagement Session

Have a favourite Toronto cafe?

Toronto has no shortage of coffee shops. No matter what area of the city you decide to explore you'll be sure to encounter one of many! Many of them have a few tables or benches to enjoy out front too! Why not hit up 1 (or even 2) of your favourite caffeine refill spots for your Toronto engagement session.

Make sure to reach out beforehand to check if it's okay to photograph in the cafe. Some appreciate a head's up, while others are okay if you just politely ask upon arrival.

Neighbourhoods/Parks

Toronto has so many distinct neighbourhoods scattered around the city! From Little Italy to Cabbagetown, Distillery District, or Kensington Market. Whether you love the one you live in or frequent a different one, why not try exploring your favourite neighbourhood in the city? Just wandering the streets, stopping in little shops along the way can make. for a fun filled engagement session with different backdrops.

Then of course there are parks to explore too! From the big ones like Evergreen Brickworks located in the Don Valley, to High Park in the west end. So bust out the bikes and picnic basket and pull up some grass in one of the city's many parks!

Toronto Island

Toronto Island is such a lovely spot for an engagement session! Sometimes it's nice to escape the hustle of the city and get some peace and quiet. Well you don't have to go far to get just that! Toronto Island is just a quick ferry ride away and of course offers the perfect view of the city skyline from different points to feature in your engagement session!

Bring a picnic, some champagne and watch the sun go down over the city!

There are multiple points to head out to when leaving the city; Hanlan's point, which is on the west side and closest to the island airport, Centre Island, which is in the centre, here there is a small amusement park, and Ward's Island is the farthest east point, here is where many residents live.

No need for a return ticket on the ferry, it's included in your fare. Adult fare is $8.19 CDN.

*Be mindful that there are no cars (therefore uber or taxis), or public transit on the Island. Consider bringing your bike across if you'd like to check different areas on the islands.
