Margot + Till - The Sequel

Margot and Till were married in front of their friends and family during their colourful destination wedding in Germany this summer!

These two lovebirds are my very dear friends. Not only did I shoot this special occasion, but I also documented their super intimate marriage ceremony back in 2020 in Toronto, AND I got to play bridesmaid and photographer during these very special German nuptials. Not only was this beautiful, quaint town a picture-perfect location, but it's also where Till grew up - so it was an even more special place for these two to celebrate their love!

This wedding was so much fun to shoot for so many reasons. For one, as long as I’ve known her (we're talking like 20+ years!) Margot has always had a cool aesthetic. Her and Till brought unique details, bright colours and a cheery aesthetic together for their day. Peep Margot's metallic pink shoes, our varying green bridesmaids’ outfits, Till and his men in powdery blue and colourful ties. Oh and those florals! The colours alone were so different compared to what I normally shoot, and I adored it.

One of my favourite parts of the day was when Margot walked down the aisle and reached the top, the band mistakenly kept playing the song until it was over. This would make some couples a little awkward and uncomfortable, but not Margot and Till! Instead of stopping the band or awkwardly laughing, the two playfully danced along until the song was through – truly kicking off the lighthearted vibes for the day.  All their guests cheered them on and enjoyed the moment just as much as they did!

Since the couple is already legally wed, they did things a little differently and were able to incorporate personal touches into their ceremony. One of their mutual friends officiated the ceremony underneath a handmade chuppah, guests came up to the mic and shared fun stories and song lyrics with everyone that reminded them of the couple. When it came time for Margot and Till to exchange wedding bands, they placed handmade rings onto one another's fingers. They had taken a jewellery course back in Toronto where they made each others bands. This was the first time they saw them completed, and it was such a beautiful surprise! Continuing to add in some of Margot's Jewish background, the couple signed a beautiful Ketubah created by an artist, which is signed in a traditional Jewish wedding.

At cocktail hour more emotional speeches were said by both of their parents as well as Margot and Till. As I strolled around snapping photos of the guests, I was lucky to meet and mingle with people from all over the world – 16 countries to be exact!

Margot and Till met in Barcelona and have both travelled around the globe, both alone and together, so this wedding was a grand affair to bring friends they’ve met along their journey together. Till’s dad painted a map and the couple asked their friends to sign where they were travelling from - a special and unique memento from their day.

Margot and Till’s day was a true labour of love! From homemade signs, bouquets and boutonnières, to guests supplying candy from all over the world to their sweets table, to Till’s parents hosting many of the guests in their home town. Margot and Till threw an epic rehersal dinner the night before to have guests and family members meet and spend time together before the wedding. This continued into the day after the wedding too, with a gorgeous wagon winery tour through the 3 connecting towns. It was such an epic and memorable few days and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it, both as a friend and photographer!

What was your favourite part of the day?

Margot- "I have so many. Oh my goodness when the surprise vintage wedding bus pulled up on the tiny cobble stone streets of Till's childhood neighbourhood. When we had our first dance actually before the wedding ceremony when the band got carried away playing “Simply The Best”. The moment before I tapped till on the shoulder for our first look. When my dad saw me for the first time. When my mom and grandma and I said the prayers together <3. Also- loved the vineyard rides post wedding. It was so funny and so so chill. "

Till- "Till- When Margot joined me on the dance floor for the first dance. "

Do you have any advice for couples planning a destination wedding?

Till- "Have someone there who knows the area help! Try to incorporate about what is unique about the area into the wedding"

Margot- "GET A WEDDING PLANNER! haha. Secondly, really understand the experience of the guests who are arriving to this unknown place to celebrate with you. Get them acclimatized to the area, get them together pre and post wedding for drinks and activities like we did so everyone can meet and have a great time!"

Are there a set of photos that stick out as your favourite?

Till- "the family and friends photos were so awesome because it was just everyone together and it meant so much"

Margot- "My favourite photos are of when my mom was helping me get ready. Those still get me really emotional as my mom and I rarely get one on one time so it’s very special. I also really love the photos taken after the ceremony in the court yard because all the nerves were gone and we could just kick back and feel the after ceremony relief"
